Are Farm Animals Usually Killed in a Humane Manner?

The animal is well-treated during its life in terms of having space to roam, living free of fear and abuse, and being well-fed in clean conditions. In other words, the proverbial happy farm animal. In my opinion, and I am a vegetarian, the second definition of humane is the MINIMAL that we should expect.

I looked online and all I could find was this article on The Vegetarian Site. Trader Joe's, a national specialty grocer, offers a large range of vegan and soy products. Tags: eggs consumption farm animal welfare groceries. But are they really free-range eggs? They also offer "Cage Free" eggs.

There's no remotely vegan or even vegetarian (though I'm not even sure what the latter would look like) message.
