I greatly enjoyed reading these articles on diverse topics such as suet, nyjer seed, the development of humming-bird feeders, rarities at feeders, wild bird feeding in Latin America and the Caribbean, and, importantly, “funding for birds and wildlife.” The story of Duncraft is a good example. My librarian self is partial to a more strict taxonomic organization, but with no hope that the constant shifting of families will end in the near future, this type of sequence is making more and more sense. The book’s organization reflects the authors’ goal of making this a guide accessible to birders of all levels and skill.

The book sparked constructive conversations about what is a field guide and the efficacy of drawings versus photographs in a bird guide and just how far does one tweak a wildlife photograph for publication. Birders loved it or hated it or were just confused. It’s not clear if this is an oversight or a faulty edition.
