Raptor migration : More like rapacious bonanza, even those of us who have witnessed the Neotropical River of Raptors nearly fell out of our shoes when treated to several thousand Steppe Buzzards and Black Kites flowing overhead along with a healthy sampling of eagles, harriers, and other birds of prey! I compared a random sampling to the bird atlas maps offered on the BTO (British Trust for Ornithology) web page and found inconsistencies, perhaps because the book’s source was BirdLife International. Identification clues are also given–flight description, diagnostic features, behavior to watch for, plumage variability.

didn’t sample enough taxa to resolve these questions, so the deep relationships among these groups will need further work. Some of our longstanding questions now have really fascinating answers, and if others are still open or if new ones have been raised, we now have greater knowledge and freer imaginations with which to pursue them.
