Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve: the Tiger Afternoon

There’s a Three-striped Palm Squirrel by the side of the track, while Jungle Bush Quails are running across it in front of our Maruti Gypsy, almost the official safari vehicle of India. She has grown up in the reserve and has no experience of the environment of which tourists would not be a permanent, however boring part of.

Birding a monastery: Zhaga, Western Sichuan

My extensive birding experience allows me to be very confident that the bird below is a Rosefinch. He was from the area but had apparently been traveling to India to see the Dalai Lama. It is indeed rufous-ish. Please consult your own bird guide for more details. Or the Black-rumped being a Sagittarius while the Oriental is a Pisces?

Best Bird of the Year 2013

Hornbills are spectacular under any circumstances, but when a pair lands in a bush beside you at eye-level and begin mutual preening , it makes for a spectacular experience. Nate’s best was also a rarity in India. It was easily one of the best birding experiences I’ve ever had, even impressing my nonbirder fiance.
