Galápagos: A Natural History, Second Edition by John Kricher and Kevin Loughlin gives the traveling naturalist the tools needed to fully appreciate and experience the Galápagos Islands. I wish I had read this book. He’s also Professor Emeritus of Biology at Wheaton College, Massachusetts. They complement Kricher’s text.,

Birders are always happy to see a turtle or tortoise, and there are times of the year when my social media feeds are sprinkled with photos of turtles beings removed from roads or crawling to land to lay eggs. We think that the original stock from which the Galapagos Finches evolved came from nearby South America. However, this is not the case with the Galapagos Tortoises. But the Tortoises and Iguanas (and some other animals, probably) did not come from the nearby South American landmass via what is now Ecuador.
