Maybe it was a version of the Mississippi River, maybe it was a version of the Warren River, likely both. Non-bird watchers without binoculars and experience are notoriously bad sources of information. In any event, by mid summer or so, the babies are not so small and more or less do OK on their own and hang around the nest.
