Once I observed a man walking his two small dogs here, passing by a perched White-tailed Eagle but looking down at grass and not noticing the largest raptor in Europe at all. In a co-ordinated protest, members of the League for the Protection of Birds (LPO) destroyed hundreds of traps and set free the birds inside. The hunting and selling of ortolans, which have suffered a Europe-wide decline of 40-50% in the last 40 years, has been illegal in France since 1999. From the Guardian.

Earlier this month I received an email from someone who cares a great deal about birds and their conservation, let’s protect his anonymity and call him Mr White. Further research revealed two more companies in Britain and several others across Europe all engaged in the same shooting tourism.
