Reddit Animals

I can’t read a story about a pet or watch a video without going down the emotional sinkhole. It might not be a rainbow bridge incident but just some puppers/kittens fooling around their humans but I can’t go through the thing without welling up. Even the wholesome videos of pets in Reddit makes me cry.

There are countless CDs and downloads and books, but MyYogaOnline is not only convenient (as in, you don't have to leave the house), but it is also very inexpensive to join (and you can view sample videos free of charge), and the videos are beautifully produced. I sometimes experience despair thinking about all of the suffering.

So modest and retiring is this well named woodland recluse that it will not sing if it suspects humans are taking notice of it. Perhaps it feels some measure of security from human intervention in subdued light. To hear the song at its best, one must be there at twilight, which eliminates most people.

Abby, I too get very upset by stories and images of what occurs every second of every day to nonhumans and humans alike. I choose not to watch videos or bombard myself with images of suffering. When a new video is released on YouTube of abuse at a slaughterhouse (as if it's not all abuse, by the way), I don't watch.

I read Chris’s story and saw his video a couple of hours after his sister made it public on social media (I had been Facebook friends with Chris for several years, though I had never met him face-to-face). It was the same day George Floyd was killed. I remember that day. It’s powerful writing. Nah, sadly, probably not.

The books work best when the birding is coupled with the human element. On the other hand, Phoebe Snetsinger’s memoir, Birding on Borrowed Time , becomes tedious because of her lack of emotional disclosure. And, just last week James Currie posted about Finding Rainbow Pittas here, on 10,000 Birds, with great video footage.

i) Do attend socially conscious circuses like Cirque de Soleil that exclusively feature human performers. (j) j) Donate only to Humane Charities that don't test on animals. A list of Humane Charities is available here. Then, take 2 minutes and re-view this video of raccoon dogs being skinned alive. Do it for the animals.
