Kelly wondered whether the term "vegan" is " worth fighting for " given the latest trend of seemingly oxymoronish (waiting for that one to hit Webster's) terminology from the mouths of people who want to find a way to use animals, yet make it appear that they're not. Is vegan a diet ? Before 6pm, he doesn't eat animals.

My dogs eat vegan dog food. But they also haven't made a moral choice to not use animals. To say they are vegans is odd to me, though I have done that as the distinction is lost on most people and for the sake of a swift message it does the job. At least they didn't say "vegan cleanse."

Are we pinning people down and force-feeding them vegan burritos? Perhaps it is the industry's inability to evolve morally that is behind the times. Just think of how much vegan education and animal care could be accomplished with the money in those large organizations " is what I would say to Parker.

I've been out of every loop I used to be in because my work outside of veganism and animal rights came a-calling in a most critical way. There are new Francione-style abolitionists and new people to veganism who debate about the ethics of consuming eggs from their neighbor's chickens. I don't get it.

I say "if you know someone" because this isn't a book I'd recommend to vegans for their vegan education efforts. The vegans I know would probably find it a bit maddening, and here's why: We aren't sure whether Foer is a vegan. Tags: Activism Books Ethics Language. Not great, but good. He never says he is.
