Today we have a lovely guest post from author Deborah Blumenthal. A New York Times story that ran in 2001 about a homeless dog wandering around a suburban part of New York City, struck a chord with me. He was, “part German Shepherd, part something else,” and he was smart enough to find food,and win the hearts of the locals. They offered him hand-outs and cared enough about him, not to call Animal Control and risk having him picked up and sent to a shelter where his fate would be doomed.

Investigation Demanded for Southwest Lab

Stop Animal Exploitation Now! (SAEN) is calling for an investigation of Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research in San Antonio, TX. SAEN says previous USDA reports revealed primates have died at the Texas lab from dehydration and hypothermia, while others have simply been "found dead" -- possibly without veterinary care -- after suffering from serious disease conditions that include temperatures up to 105 degrees.
