Whooper Swans winter in good numbers Around 20,000 Common Pochard winter on the lake A flock of Ferruginous Ducks (these were on nearby Lake Doirani on the border with North Macedonia ) One bird that has notably increased in numbers in recent years is the Common Crane , with January counts of up to 140 birds.

Definitively the Egyptians!

Neighbouring (FYRO) Macedonia nowadays has about 20 pairs, while two decades ago they had 135! And so, I was driving from Greece to Serbia… in central Macedonia, two birds were circling not far from the motorway… black and white (above)… perhaps White Storks on migration? Reasons for this situation are numerous.

Pelican Lake (Greece): Magic Revisited

The sun rises over the village of Chrysochorafa, by Kerkini Lake in the north of Greece, not far from the triple border with Bulgaria and FYRO Macedonia. In the end, my eagle goes toward the slopes of 2 km high Mt. As soon as it disappears, another eagle – Short-toed Snake Eagle appears, with a snake half dangling from its beak.
