If you cannot find the nest or it’s too destroyed, do not try and raise a chick this young. It’s illegal to raise wild birds (even orphaned ones) without state and federal permits. Young raptors like the above Bald Eagle chick are a different matter. Owls are a little different. Leave it be.

She has a captive-bred education bird named Xena, a Eurasian Eagle Owl. This summer Lisa raised three orphaned Common Ravens. They were not aware of wildlife laws, and thought they could raise and release them. It’s been quite an adventure raising and releasing them, and I’ve learned so much.

Nineteen days later we had racked up an amazing list of 436 species, including some of Africa’s least known birds such as Congo Serpent Eagle , Yellow-footed Honeyguide , Tessmann’s Flycatcher , Yellow-bearded Greenbul , Black-collared Lovebird and much besides. The rare Rufous Fishing Owl was one of the many species seen by the group here.
