Two hundred yards further, the first Common Goldeneye and Smew started to appear and, while counting Smew and geese, a Great Bittern took flight from one stand of reeds to another, right in front of us. And I didn’t pay enough attention because one very dark eagle flew by at the same time, an adult Greater Spotted Eagle.

So, the best way to find a leopard is to find the kill. Verreaux’s Eagle-Owls are amongst the heaviest and longest owls in the world.

Its numbers are declining rapidly due to feral cats and this duck is currently listed as vulnerable. These predatory thrushes have been known to prey on albatross and Spectacled Petrel eggs, the young of Great Shearwaters and have even been known to remove storm-petrel species from their burrows and kill them.
