If you cannot find the nest or it’s too destroyed, do not try and raise a chick this young. It’s illegal to raise wild birds (even orphaned ones) without state and federal permits. The first few years for female ducks and geese are kind of practice rounds. Never raise a wild goose or duckling yourself.

The researchers flew a quiet quadcopter drone more than 200 times at different angles and speeds near populations of semi-captive mallard ducks, wild flamingos, and common greenshanks — watching the birds for signs of stress, such as head or tail movements or flying away. So far, there aren’t any reports of bird deaths caused by drones.

Chongming Dongtan, where these photos were taken, is the wintering location of about 100 Hooded Cranes – about 1% of the global population. Fortunately, they are quite common in Shanghai.
