Queens, the finest borough in New York City, as I may have mentioned before, is where I have now seen a whopping 279 species! Harlequin Duck – There were several birds seen in Queens this winter that I either missed or could not get out to chase. What species will be the ten to get me to 289? Whimbrel – The other.

Lewis's Woodpecker in New York State

Second of all, Lewis’s Woodpeckers are birds of the west and they rarely stray to New York State. Fortunately, Tom spotted it flying in and landing in a tree over the house and we all enjoyed scope views of a great bird, a lifer for most of us and Isaac’s 400th bird in New York State!

Our Best Birds of 2020

Redgannet, you’ll have to come visit New York City sometime soon. I’d like a beer too, please, as I have never seen a Masked Duck. But in 2020, with all my travel plans cancelled and pretty much everything shut down, I wasn’t straying too far from Albany, New York for birding. Clare (and Grant!)
