Wood Warblers have a strongly pronounced passage through April; Tawny Pipits , Bluethroats and Savi’s Warblers are back by the first week, and Ortolan Buntings and European Turtle Doves by the second week of April. Garganey and Ferruginous Duck , as well as Goosanders (aka Common Mergansers) at mountain reservoirs – they are all busy nesting.

Pelican Lake (Greece): Magic Revisited

The sun rises over the village of Chrysochorafa, by Kerkini Lake in the north of Greece, not far from the triple border with Bulgaria and FYRO Macedonia. In mid-eclipse, ducks posed quite a challenge. Near Kerkini village, I find a mixed flock of Collared and Turtle Doves on the wires. Early September morning.
