People ascribe near mythic status to the members of the family Delphinidae (and other related families). Even people with no other interest in wildlife, who couldn’t tell a sparrow from an ostrich (or even a dolphin from a fish) love dolphins. Dolphins are basically just smart sharks that breath air.

Food We had breakfast in the hotel (tropical fruit, omelette, natural juices and Colombian coffee), and almost all other meals in a small, family run Moro’s Restaurant, fully booked for our group, so in the times of Covid we enjoyed a certain level of isolation. Getting to the Poor Knights involves a day-trip out of the small fishing port of Tutukaka, and straight out of the harbour we had our first wildlife encounter, a pod of Bottlenose Dolphins that swam around the dive boat. but also promised a great number of fish along the walls. Click to enbiggen.

On my recent short family vacation to Miami, I was granted a single day to get out and really bird like a madman. The Dolphin Mall to be precise, where ponds in front of the mall are the best spot around to see Gray-headed Swamphens , yet another introduced species that has proliferated to the point where they are countable in Florida.
