Practically every sentence is documented with these studies. Yet, The Wryneck does not read like a literature review.

Jonathan Elphick and John Fanshawe provided “specialist research” and support.” He describes lark mirrors and other contraptions that were used to entice the birds into traps in detail, and cites the few documented numbers of larks sold in market in the early 19 th century (826, 462 in the Paris market in 1832).

If I was an ornithologist aiming for a grant, I would now definitely highlight the need for more research on this topic. The researchers are quite aware of the differences between humans and birds and thus have completely ignored another explanation for this behavior.
