The animal is well-treated during its life in terms of having space to roam, living free of fear and abuse, and being well-fed in clean conditions. In other words, the proverbial happy farm animal. In my opinion, and I am a vegetarian, the second definition of humane is the MINIMAL that we should expect.

Basically, it sounds like the ag committee will be including food safety and animal welfare concerns in their discussions. There is definitely a new tide in California, post Proposition 2. Tags: california bile farming farm animal welfare agribusiness food. The ag industry does NOT like this.

Here's what they say about Trader Joe's eggs (definitely does not sound humane to me.) None of the employees at my local store could offer any information concerning the welfare of the hens. Tags: eggs consumption farm animal welfare groceries. They also offer "Cage Free" eggs.
