Hurting animals and repenting later.

Has anyone, as a child, ever hurt animals like pelting stray cats and dogs with stones? It’s gotten to a point where it’s a constant buzz that keeps reminding me of my cruelties howsoever trivial they were. And once the deed is done you start repenting your vile act. I used to do this when I was a kid. Please help/suggest.
