A bird species is near extinction. Tags: wildlife crime UK animal cruelty. The Brits are known for their animal rights activism, but there's been a rise in wildlife crime against all animals. Apparently they are seen as nuisances. Badgers are being caught for dog-baiting. Bats are being targeted.

Finally, a cruelty suit against Feld Entertainment, which owns Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, is coming to trial. According to the complaint, the defendants routinely beat elephants, violating the 1973 Endangered Species Act by hitting them with bull hooks. Tags: animal cruelty circus elephants.

Juluri is referring to something specific: the Supreme Court's examination of First Amendment protection of acts of cruelty to animals. None of this does justice to the earth, and our unique place in it as a species which has great privileges and also appropriate responsibilities. They certainly depict cruelty to animals, right?
