There will be no pies or cakes that were made with milk that was meant for calves, or eggs that represent dead male chicks , forced molting, debeaking and other mutilations and cruelties. The two objections to a vegan Thanksgiving that I hear most often are: It's our tradition and Because it tastes good. It's our tradition.

Spencer R writes: Vegans sound exactly like religious fundamentalists. Trying to convince people to go vegan is like trying to convince people to only reproduce once. You purposefully choose to ignore facts like that though when citing the "cruelty and injustice" involved in the rearing and slaughter of animals.

I long for the realistic hope that one second will pass without torture and slaughter and enslavement, and I know perfectly well that that second, despite Earth Days and Earth Hours and Meat-Free Days, isn't going to happen. I don't need to "remind myself" of how bad it is to bolster my commitment to veganism. What to do.

Would we say these people were slaughtered in a “people friendly” manner? Confinement is confinement, mutilation is mutilation, and slaughter is slaughter. My doctor says my tremendous health and strength are due to my being a vegan. Animal agriculture is inherently inhumane. Every meal, for me, is a celebration of life.

Causing an animal to suffer for no good reason is cruel, and our ordinary commonsense morality tells us in no uncertain terms that cruelty is wrong. At the time of slaughter, these frightened animals are inhumanely loaded onto trucks and shipped long distances to the slaughterhouse without food or water or protection from the elements.
