It is a bit worrying that while the Basel Zoo is listed by Google as having a page on the Red-tailed Laughingthrush , that page itself does not seem to exist anymore, and the species is not listed among the inhabitants of the aviary of the zoo.

Of course, you might just refer to this bird as a bottom feeder, but that might lead to misunderstandings, as this term has another meaning, “someone who occupies or tries to advance from the lowest position in society, politics, business, etc., ” ( source ).

We have photographs and newspaper obituaries of Martha, the last living Passenger Pigeon, who died after a lifetime in captivity, mostly in the Cincinnati Zoo. It is correct, of course, to think of extinction this way during the Holocene Extinction, which we are living through right now. We have a lot of source material. What a horror!
