For 13 years now, friends and family have been gathering in an undisclosed corner of Potter County, Pennsylvania during the third weekend of July to create a glorious giant chicken of wood, straw, and gunpowder only to burn it. Over the years, I’ve chronicled an apparent decline in the numbers of the birds hanging around the kill-zone.

This is a roundabout way of introducing Australia’s most dangerous bird, because of course a country where an agonizing death lurk in every lake, river or law has a bird that can you kill you too. The chicks, which were about the size of chickens, had brown and fawn striped plumage reminding me of the colours of young wild boars.

Again, they just want to prevent the "cruel" hunters from killing Bambi's mother. First of all, does he really believe that piffle?

I refuse to eat pork, but eat grass-fed beef when I am making Persian food, and certain forms of chicken and lamb with other ethnic foods I consume. What if it's customary to allow guests to torture or kill one of the tribe? In other words, there are moral limits to science, as to law. I, like you, am not a complete vegetarian.
