Timothy Barksdale is a birder, Prairie Chicken documentarian , and wildlife videographer well-known for his stunning Adventures with Birdman. Even though we spend more money and are far more numerous than hunters this is not commonly understood. The better this film does on the first weekend is critically important to us and the birds.

The problem with that statement is it's not as if farmers are searching "the wild" for cows, pigs, chicken and fish, plucking them from their homes, and plopping them on a farm to live out their (shortened) lives prior to slaughter. And before any hunter can blurt out "Have you ever seen a deer die of starvation in the woods?

Each chapter of The Jewel Hunter reads like a mini-travel novel. There is a lot more to tell: descriptions of remote villages, delicous exotic food, unusual exotic food, going hungry, preparations for treks into isolated jungle areas (does one buy Quaker Oats or a live chicken?), The Jewel Hunter can be frustrating in this respect.

Again, they just want to prevent the "cruel" hunters from killing Bambi's mother. First of all, does he really believe that piffle? Animal activists don't care about the health or welfare of deer herds? What on earth would even give him that idea?

So, one might surmise, it’s OK if they get shot by hunters thinking they’re sandhill cranes? What could motivate gunmen (I cannot call them hunters) in two states to deliberately kill North America’s tallest and most critically endangered bird? Do all hunters realize that? It gives one to wonder why this designation was made.

Plus, I mean, it’s a giant chicken-looking thing that’s actually related to ducks… with that kind of identity crisis going on, what’s not to love? He lives in Forest Hills with Daisy, their son, Desmond Shearwater, and their two indoor cats, Hunter and B.B.
