I got sunburned, Desi suffered a nasty cut over his eye, and all three of us sneezed and sniffled and hacked and coughed with colds. Ditto for the Blackbird Bakery on Bainbridge Island, Fins Coastal Cuisine in Port Townsend, and Ezell’s Chicken in Seattle. Drawbridges are the bane of humanity. Eat there. Seriously.

Just like people, pets that are not treated right can suffer from stress and other health problems, and an inadequate diet, for example, will make cats more prone to infections and illnesses. By and large, human food does not make good cat treats, although there are a few things that are suitable if prepared with care.

Do they suffer any more or less in death? But as Cohen experiences, humans don't live "in theory." The theory that the mind finds inescapably well-formulated is often overwhelmed and overturned by human emotions. Are they any more or less sentient? Are they any more or less part of the mysterious unity of life? I think not.

This last implies of course an improvement in ethics, as opposed to morality, as I have defined it, unless we already understand 'Do as you would be done by' as applicable to whales, cattle, chickens, and so on, as it is to human beings.
