Week 16: South Africa and Kruger National Park

So far we have seen Impala, Duiker, Greater Kudu, Mongoose, Zebra and warthogs around the neighborhood, and yard. The mighty rhino along with the Cattle Egret. In the same first day plus a couple of hours, my Africa bird count is at 66 species. The African Fish Eagle was a great first day bird.

Birding Cape Town

Cape Mongoose are also easy to see. Cattle Egret in spring flowers. The deep reedbeds and pools hide many species, including some hard-to-see hippos! Cape Bulbul , Cape Weavers, and Cape Wagtail are all common here if you feel you need even more birds with cape in the name. Greater Flamingos. Strandfontein.

Searching for vultures in India

Of the estimated 500 million cattle in India, only 4% were destined for consumption by humans as meat. The disappearance of vultures has allowed other species such as rat and [stray] dog populations to grow. Oddly, I saw no rats, only a mongoose or two and a few stray dogs.
