Humane treatment runs counter to the entire industry when the point is to make money by processing these animals as fast as possible. Unlike domestic animals, there are minimal organizations or lobbyists to defend these animals, therefore leaving public opinion to be shaped only by the insincere comments of the cattle industry.

Bea directed me to an interview with Dr. Elizabeth Parker , the "chair man " (my emphasis) of the Animal Agriculture Alliance at CattleNetwork, which apparently is "The Source for Cattle News." Are we pinning people down and force-feeding them vegan burritos? Of course, Lobo is missing the point entirely.

Niman obscures the well-evidenced connection between veganism and environmentalism. Yet the turkey she raises is a much smaller factor in advancing global warming than the cattle on her ranch because they produce meat much more efficiently. Birds need only a fraction of the food that cattle do to gain a pound of meat.

Suppose someone enjoys drinking the blood of cattle and hogs. Would the blood drinker be sinning against the principles of lactovo moral vegetarianism or just the principles of vegan moral vegetarianism? KBJ: The most that this shows is that people should be vegans rather than lactovo vegetarians.

I'm not one of those people who thinks family is composed of only humans or humans who are biologically related. Just ask former cattle rancher Howard Lyman , who is now a vegan and animal rights activist. That's one of the reasons adopting wasn't a stretch for me at all mentally.

Besides depleting the ocean’s supply of fish for those animals normally feeding on them, the factory farming of cattle, pigs and chickens uses excessive water and pollutes our land. It is certainly true that the world’s marine stocks—large fish even more than small ones—are being depleted by human demand at a catastrophic rate.
