According to a Wales on Sunday investigation, the number of animals used at Cardiff has risen by 13 percent since 2006. In four years it experimented on 157,839 mice, 17,324 rats, 11,096 fish, 1,941 birds, 1,253 guinea pigs, 933 pigeons, 884 frogs, 207 cats, 54 rabbits and 18 tree shrews from the tropics of south-east Asia.

We were able to take a thoroughly enjoyable boat ride on Lake Chamo, whose shores teem with birds, including such typical African species as African Fish Eagle, Goliath Heron the world’s largest, Yellow-billed Stork and the incomparable Hamerkop , a species in its own family. A Konso village perched atop a terraced hill.

Am I over-confident in my thinking that we were so interesting that they were investigating us for a good half an hour, until we moved further upriver? We occasionally heard their load snorting, while their movements were relaxed and rush-free. Other than that, I have no explanation what were they doing. metres (7.6 Photo by Juan Carlos.

As we came through the open fields towards the coast there were numerous Cattle Egrets among the cattle and Straw-necked Ibis. An Australian Raven was investigating the area between the forest and the coast and concentrating on something that was not apparent to us! Little Black Cormorants and Little Pied Cormorant.
