I’d like to introduce you to a diminutive heron, the Cattle Egret Bubuclus ibis. The Cattle Egret is native to Africa, where it is a familiar sight among herds of large mammals. Cattle Egret is more closely related to herons in the genus Ardea then the species termed egrets in the genus Egretta. ibis and the eastern B.

• Tigers and other big cats are able to mimic other animals, tigers in specific mimic deer, bear, cattle and monkeys and the South American Margay can mimic the call of baby monkeys to lore adults. Deer, cattle, camel and goats are more closely related to dolphins and whales then they are with horses.

We were woefully under-prepared in terms of planning – which almost kept us from meeting our friends – but we were also surprised and thrilled to learn that not only were Gray Whales migrating past the lighthouse, but Elephant Seals were lounging on a nearby beach! Elephant Seals. White-crowned Sparrow. Think again!

The river cruises up the Chobe River are most famous for the dry season aggregations of African Bush Elephants drawn to the year-round water. But even without huge herds of elephants large game is defiantly the major draw for most people on the cruise. Hippo and attending Cattle Egret. African Darter and Reed Cormorant.

In the north of the reserve, by the Tadoba Lake, a herd of Chital Deer is grazing, with a familiar sight of Cattle Egrets around them. In the first full day, we have seen dozens each of giraffes, zebra, warthogs, elephants, 12 rhinos, 30 hippos, 3 Cape Buffalo, crocodiles, jackals, monkeys, baboons, literally a thousand impala, and at least 10 different antelope type animals. The mighty rhino along with the Cattle Egret.
