On Charles and Project Treadstone

Animal Person

As for Project Treadstone, there have been three fatalities-by-automobile and one litter of three kittens, two of whom were caught and adopted fairly early. There are now about 10 cats who are unsterilized, and next week the women at the site, with a little help from their friends, will start trapping again. Finally, I was asked to participate in a new TNR group in my town that started largely because of my oodles of questions and setting of policy for Project Treadstone!

Pahokee Opens for Project Treadstone

Sure, it takes an hour to get there and I have no idea how I'm going to get 10 cats in my car or even trap 10 cats, but I'm still enjoying the honeymoon phase of the concept and reveling in some kind of victory I had nothing to do with. The cats are getting harder to trap, and I think even if I finally were able to get the spay RV from up north I don't see how I could trap 30 cats in a day at this point no matter how many people volunteer to help.

Yet More Good News for Project Treadstone

Animal Person

I received a call yesterday from a woman who started a coalition for homeless cats. She said her Trapper Man could go to the Project Treadstone site--last night and this morning--and trap up to 10 cats that she would bring to Pahokee. However, she does have people who can help, and now that Pahokee's open they will focus some time each week on Project Treadstone! She has brought over a dozen cats there in just two weeks, 11 of whom were pregnant.

On Project Treadstone and Welfare, OED-Style

Project Treadstone If anyone in Palm Beach County wants to get involved in the Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) of feral cats, now is the time, as the county's Spay Shuttle is back in business (but for a whopping $40/cat rather than the original $15), and Pahokee ($25/cat) is open as well. Appointments must be made, and several may be obtained for each day (the person who schedules me can get up to 10 per day, but I don't think Trapper Man can get 10 cats/day.

Powder Puff, RIP, and More

Animal Person

Stephanie posted the first of a series of guest posts by yours truly about TNR and Project Treadstone over at her immensely popular site at Change.org. Speaking of Project Treadstone, Powder Puff, seen below, died over the weekend. My only hope is that other kitties at Project Treadstone aren't suffering someplace hidden. This week we are going to try to trap four cats for fixing, vaccinating, ear-tipping and microchipping on Friday.

Project Treadstone. Click on Project Treadstone above and see what happens! You Also, that's how you get the cat-and-dog-and-horse (and maybe dolphin) people to cross over into a world where cuteness isn't the primary concern. Today is the launch of. I'm excited to be a blogger for Animal Rights Zone because its target market is people who don't usually subscribe to blogs. Also, it has the added bonus of organizing my content better than I have.

On Dominance and Animal Birth Control

mikey, my stance can be seen in the posts about Project Treadstone (and if you type Project Treadstone into the Google Search box just below my half-blind, diabetic greyhound, Violet Rays, on the right, you'll get a dozen more posts). We are a far bigger problem on this planet than the (over)population of feral cats, elephants, Canada geese, or any other creature we "manage" or want to manage, "humanely" or otherwise.

Creature Update

Animal Person

From the feral cats of Project Treadstone to Charles' back surgery to problems with Violet's Vetsulin (insulin for dogs), we had more than our share of issues. As for Project Treadstone, after several false starts, trapping, spaying and neutering will resume next week. As many of you know, 2009 was chock full of creature-related drama for me.
