In a nationwide survey in 2005, the Australian public rated the common myna as the most significant pest, beating contenders such as the cane toad, the European rabbit, and feral cat ( source ). It is probably a rumor that writing a post about Australia and not mentioning kangaroos is illegal, but why take the risk?

In the Far East they keep birds of prey which they use to capture other animals such as foxes and rabbits. Millions die each year that are hit by cars, crash into windows, wind turbine blades or at the paws of domestic cats. On top of being illegal to capture and sell birds in the country, it is also immoral. It is quite simple.

It’s illegal to raise wild birds (even orphaned ones) without state and federal permits. If it is in immediate danger from cats, try and shoo it away from the cat and lock the cat up indoors (preferably for good) or at least while the bird learns to fly. Birds of prey look cool, but they can’t count.
