Smithsonian Institute researcher is accused of trying to poison street cats outside her apartment building on 15th Street in Northwest. Dauphine works at the National Zoo studying wild birds, where her research has focused on one of birds’ enemies: cats. Here’s hoping that Dauphine has her name cleared.

As long as they had no drugs in their system, and as long as they weren’t touched by a cat (and thus contaminated with salmonella/pasteurella/Bartonella, etc.) My scheduled rodent pick-up day wasn’t for another two weeks, so I called my friends at the local zoo and begged for help.

Eventually one evening driving home I was shocked to get good views of a clapper wandering about my car park (I’m fairly sure it was sneaking my neighbours’ cats food too). Also frequent escapees (or very free ranging domestics) are guinea fowl and to a lesser extent a number of other gamebirds up to and including peacocks.
