Illegal capture for the wild animal trade is an obvious peril for such a charismatic species, but this big blue bird is also hunted both for its meat and feathers. Last but certainly not least, the macaw suffers along with the other species in its ecosystem from rampant habitat destruction and deforestation.

If any "drastic measures" are employed, they are to remove animals from suffering, not to impose our dietary choices on others. The HSUS isn't even anti-hunting ! Of course, Lobo is missing the point entirely. Are we pinning people down and force-feeding them vegan burritos? .

If you like animals you will generally not want them to suffer and you won’t want them to go extinct. Animal rights is concerned with preventing the suffering or even use of animals by humans. You cannot care about the individual, not at that level of suffering.
