They were still listed as Endangered, but wildlife management measures taken in this park were clearly working. Below legal size for humans is still legal for pelicans. Nikos managed to show us the incubating Cattle Egrets, of which only 2 or 3 pairs breed in this enormous heronry, counting up to 9000 pairs back in 2014.

The way things should be is a very powerful motivating factor in human lives. The tigers keep wandering out of their reserve and taking cattle from nearby villages, taking what little these already poor people have. I, personally, deeply believe that wild places and wildlife have an existence value that should be respected.

John James Audubon first heard the sparrow in July, 1944, on a buffalo hunt in North Dakota. So, I was excited to read reports in late 2017 of a pair of Whooping Cranes being seen on a cattle farm. I easily spotted the Whooping Cranes in the cattle field. It has always been a difficult bird to find, even when abundant.
