Birding Tanjung Aru Beach, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia

As the rice paddies near Kota Kinabalu described in an earlier post , Tanjung Aru beach is not really a major birding spot in its own right. The Long-tailed Parakeet can sometimes be seen here feeding right next to the Blue-naped Parrot. Unfortunately, this may not impress the villager who can earn US$ 4 for a trapped bird.

Laughing at you, not with you

36, if my counting is right and there has been no very recent split or lump. The Blue-crowned Laughingthrush (Wuyuan) is listed as Critically Endangered, as there are only about 250-280 birds spending the breeding season in Northeastern Jiangxi (and according to the HBW, it is not clear where they spend the non-breeding period).

Finding an Asian Openbill in Singapore-second ever record!

We were met by several Cattle Egret in beautiful breeding plumage feeding on the grass right next to the train station. Other areas of Singapore had not had this level of rubbish, but with the tidal movements in the Johore Strait it appeared much of it ended up her from both Singapore and Malaysia.
