Pied Oystercatchers breeding in Broome

This year we have continued to monitor the breeding of several pairs of Pied Oystercatchers along the coast in Broome from Gantheaume Point to Willie Creek on the south side. The first eggs were laid in the first week of July, which is the case each year.

Life in a high desert oasis

When you conjure up thoughts of the desert oasis, you probably envision the towering white sand dunes of cinematic fame, with camels, brightly colored tents and turbaned nomads. The first was five beautiful Lazuli Buntings , all in their bright breeding plumage. This gives you an idea of what the arroyo like down stream from the oasis.

Image by Adam Riley Of the 115 African species now listed as Endangered or Critically Endangered, nearly half occur on the islands surrounding Africa or are non-breeding migrants to Africa. There has been growth in the breeding population at the colonies in Morocco (now estimated at 106 breeding pairs and approximately 500 birds in total).
