I was browsing for some quotes when I came across this group - The National Animal Interest Alliance (NAIA). Our members are pet owners, dog and cat clubs, obedience clubs and rescue groups as well as breeders, trainers, veterinarians, research scientists, farmers, fishermen, hunters and wildlife biologists.

So, I anxiously followed the “Flock to Marion 2022” Facebook group in anticipation for open cabins to come up for sale. These have been used by meteorologists, technicians, and researchers who spend about 13 months on the island at a time researching a variety of sciences. I waited…and waited…and waited. and seabirders.

The consultant also suggested increasing readership by catering to highly specific niche interest groups. It seems the ones I got decent photos of are all juveniles – it generally seems to be easier to get photos of juveniles as they have not quite learned to avoid humans. Thank god that this does not apply to humans.

You see, in German we have three distinct words for different groups of owls. When researching the origin of this saying, I figured it pertained to snares that were used to catch thrushes until better times prevailed. You know, cavity breeders. I’d like to point out though that “owly“ is a poor translation.

Anyway, one of the babblers of Sepilok is the Bornean Black-capped Babbler – the result of a split of the Black-capped Babbler (well, at least from a human perspective – the birds themselves are probably quite nonchalant about it). Are these the paper mills one occasionally reads about in relation to Chinese research papers?

Bolivar Flats Shorebird Sanctuary was an amazing and unexpected treat, but that’s because I failed to do my research. They did flush eventually, but not because of humans. I’m sure regular visitors to this area could tell you more about how the winds and tides affect the migrating birds and when the breeders start to nest.
