Then there are the Wild Boars, Plantain Squirrels, Monitor Lizards and of course the bird-life. Well, not quite alone because you often encounter the Long-tailed Macaques as in the header photo! You should not carry plastic bags that rustle, because the Long-tailed Macaques associate the sound with food. Warning signs.

There were wild boars and monitors rustling through the leaves as well as the plantain squirrels that we had become so accustomed to. We had not expected to see too many bird species on this short walk, but sometimes these short walks can have a surprise or two.

There’s a Three-striped Palm Squirrel by the side of the track, while Jungle Bush Quails are running across it in front of our Maruti Gypsy, almost the official safari vehicle of India. On her own, two months ago, she took down a big, old and experienced Indian Boar , who already had some old tiger claw scars.

Squirrels, water monitors, lizards, wild boar, macaque monkeys and more had too often stopped us in our tracks when we heard leaves rustling or odd sounds initially! We spent most of the morning walking around the reserve slowly. Suddenly across the dull and threatening sky we observed two large birds.
