ALWAYS assume there is some other bird species in there that you have not found yet. Here is a flock of endangered species. In the case of these Tricolored Blackbirds , they are formed for DEFENSE. Could a Sharp-tailed Sandpiper be mixed in with that flock of Pectorals ? Lake Merritt, Oakland, CA. Buldir Island, AK.

Mai Po Nature Reserve : world famous locale for shorebirds, waterfowl, waders, and wetland birds; wintering grounds for certain endangered species. What is a day of birding without scanning malodorous mud, right? SPECIES LIST. I’m chagrined to note that this is one of the rarest species I saw during my trip.

My best bird of the year is based on the sighting rather than the species. Obviously my best bird of the year is going to come during this trip, what with several species of endemic pitta and broadbill possible, not to mention 8 species of hornbill and numerous babblers, storks, kingfishers, trogons and even the endemic Bornean Bristlehead.
