If We Can Rock Together, We Can Flock Together

Here is a flock of endangered species. In the case of these Tricolored Blackbirds , they are formed for DEFENSE. Look carefully and you can pick out some Least Auklets as well. Buldir Island, AK. I think you need to have at least three birds to constitute a flock. Certain flocks of birds really grab your attention.

Mai Po Nature Reserve : world famous locale for shorebirds, waterfowl, waders, and wetland birds; wintering grounds for certain endangered species. Many at Mai Po, which is one of the best places in the world to see this endangered species. 118 Eurasian (Chinese) Blackbird. Numerous everywhere there was water.

Best Bird of the Year 2013

I was fortunate to rack up a number of lifers in 2013, both at home and abroad ( Varied Thrush in Washington, Brewer’s Blackbirds in California, Burrowing Owl in the Nevada desert). Meredith enjoyed her first sighting of an awesome migration spectacle. She blogged about it here.
