The Birds of March Madness

Among the “First Four” games, the LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds faced the squad from James Madison University. At least one local European Starling decided to cheer on the Blackbirds at University of Dayton Arena in Ohio, flying around the court and even touching down on the hardwood before perching in the rafters. Temple Owls.

Week 23: The advenure continues, Stateside

Out near the tidal flats that make up a good portion of this refuge, there were plenty of Red-winged Blackbirds. It seemed like a lot of the birds still had little ones to feed, much like this Oregon Junco , with its bill full of bugs for some hungry mouths back in the nest.

We are wrapping up our last week in the great state of Oregon, and made visits to many of the old haunts of my childhood. The first part of the week, we parked the RV at a campground right on the water, of Dog Lake, 20 miles southwest of Lakeview, Oregon. There was a large population of Western Grebes on the lake.

A return visit to Summer Lake Refuge

The first weekend had me visiting my hometown of Lakeview Oregon, and the many different areas that I ran around in as a kid. The first stop, Summer Lake Wildlife Refuge in central Oregon is without a doubt one of the most important stop overs for migrating birds on the west coats, no matter the species.
