Audubon Associate Naturalist, have led this tour many times, through tornados, droughts, questionable restaurants, and, sadly, the advent of fracking, and every one of my friends who has participated over the years has raved about the experience and the birds (in fact, one member of our group was on his third or fourth trip, I lost count).

There was a large raft of hundreds of American Coot , an American White Pelican and lots of duck species. A group of about 15 Least Sandpipers was feeding in the shallows. We checked out the shrubs for songbirds while returning to the car and were rewarded with a displaying Red-winged Blackbird. The birds warmed us too.

The roadmap out of lockdown here in the UK has allowed us to meet up in small groups to indulge in outdoor activities, so birders have been gathering in loose flocks to greet the migrants as they head north.

The Pacific is divided through the Behring Strait, leaving St Lawrence and The Aleutian Islands to the east and embracing all the south Pacific island groups into the Australasian Realm. American White Pelican – Pelecanus erythrorhynchos. Brown Pelican – Pelecanus occidentalis. Cattle Egret – Bubulcus ibis.
