One of the best features about Singapore is the fact that wherever you go there are birds. Admittedly we did not go into the downtown area once during our three week stay, but wherever there are trees there are birds and Singapore is a green city. They vary in colour and offer some variety other than the bird-life.

Birding the Changi Business Park-Singapore

It is often useful to look at satellite images on Google Earth to see where there is suitable habitat for different bird species. Sometimes it can be disappointing when the area has changed due to development and other times you can find some unlikely birds. As with anywhere in Singapore, it is easy to access by public transport.

We have just returned from an incredible three weeks in Singapore, where unlike many others who visit the country we spent the whole time in nature parks, forests and gardens observing birds. The only shopping we did was to buy fresh fruit and some Asian snacks for while we were out all day hiking and birding.

Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park and Lower Peirce Reservoir-Singapore

During our three week visit to Singapore in March we spent a good part of each day walking and birding. By 17th March we were not expecting to find too many more new birds to add to our list. We were then able to walk down Upper Thomson Road and get public transport back to our hotel. Sign for Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.

Let’s take Singapore’s Changi International Airport as an example; it is a huge hub airport with large numbers of people passing through in transit to Australia, Indonesia and south-east Asia. Anyone with more than a couple of hours to kill could easily make a quick birding foray out from the airport. and take 23 minutes).

New Caldonia’s odd flightless heronish bird. Certainly not many birds on that list, which is both odd and not. Still haven’t seen one.
