Among the things that more and more birders have mentioned to me over the years is their urge to start their own birding blog, but they just don’t know how to go about it. Some people prefer WordPress (which is what 10,000 Birds uses), some people prefer Blogger. Research never hurts, right? Research never hurts, right?

From the time he can remember, every camping, hiking, or simple trip outside was focused on finding wildlife with herps, mammals, birds and native fish as his primary interests. When it comes time to for me to plan a vacation I first figure out what herps occur in the area and then what birds and mammals I can also find.

Turtles of the World: A Guide To Every Family–A Book Review by a Turtle Lover

Thankfully, there is a refreshing lack of concern for the taxonomic controversies that are apparently as rife in the turtle world as they are in the bird world. This culture chapter is necessarily brief but did make me wish for a reptile equivalent of Birds and People , where I could read more about turtle imagery in religion and literature.
