Second Atlas of Breeding Birds in Pennsylvania: A Review by an Atlas Novice

10,000 Birds

Rip Van Winkle’s Crow Killing Contest

10,000 Birds

I won’t pick a fight with hunters, as long as they eat what they shoot and don’t use lead ammunition. If you have never been to Hawk Mountain , Pennsylvania during fall migration I would strongly recommend a visit. Besides the presence of several noted birding personalities, interesting seminars and phenomenal prize give-aways, the real stars of the show were undoubtably the birds. Raptors were perceived to be vermin.

It’s the Holiday Season — Give Birding Books!

10,000 Birds

It’s December and that means one thing—a great excuse to buy books on birding. I thought I’d do a round-up of some of the best bird books reviewed this year, a few memorable titles from recent years past, and one that wasn’t reviewed but which I love, that would be great holiday gifts. Books for Beginning Birders.
