Over 700 bird species occur in Namibia, many of them range-restricted and highly desirable southern arid zone species.

The sequence of events in the establishment of this exotic tree is one that relates to frugivorous birds. It is a good example of birds dispersing and harvesting their own food supply. Perhaps mockingbirds and other resident birds took a liking to the berries they later spitted nearby.
