Alice Berkner , a registered nurse, came up with the concept of International Bird Rescue while trying to help the more than 7,000 birds that filled warehouses around the San Francisco Bay Area during this 1971 oil spill. Birds are brought to the pre-wash care team for warmth, food, fluids, and medical care.

The species is found in Atlantic coast salt marshes, and is valued for its role in the ecological life of the marsh, working with crabs and cordgrass to process decaying matter and keep our salt marshes clean. It is a filter feeder, not a bird eater. But, it is a documented bird threat!

If the nest was in a bird house, open the house and check the damage. Do not worry about touching the baby birds. The adults of most species will still care for the chicks no matter how much you touch them. Do not attempt to put a baby bird that is fully feathered like this back in the nest.
