On the breeding grounds of the north, a small bird flies into the night, takes a bearing for the south, gains altitude and flies onward. Each day, the small bird then has to fly down and find a resting place, an area to feed and take shelter. If presented with the opportunity, there’s other things that would eat a bird too.

Barn Swallows were also present along with a few Banks. Where will those birds go when they come back looking for food and shelter? In the meantime, I hope to bear witness to the continued spectacle of fall migration right at the homestead and further afield. An abundance of shorebirds. It can and does work !

Choosing to adopt an animal from a shelter, especially an older dog or cat, can add to the sense of fulfillment, knowing that you’ve provided a home to a pet that may otherwise have been euthanized.
