In Oregon you can’t own any “dangerous” wild animals, but you can get a special permit for a service monkey and anyone can fill their backyard with giraffes. For instance, you can own a lion in Alabama, but not in California. Are we fed up yet?

The Uncommon Demise of a Wood Thrush in Costa Rica

On the breeding grounds of the north, a small bird flies into the night, takes a bearing for the south, gains altitude and flies onward. In Costa Rica, they can take the form of everything from toucans (think crows with giant shark inspired beaks) to herons and monkeys. The rails did indeed come to investigate but came up empty-beaked.

The area also boasts a Rainforest Discovery Centre with several canopy walkways and towers, and a newer rehabilitation centre for bears.
